10:00 Green High Performance Computing Methods – R. Gruber (EPFL)

Computer energy consumption can be achieved through a better use of resources and by maximizing the efficiency of the running applications. The processor frequency can be adjusted to the needs of the running job, leading to reduced power consumptions in servers and PCs, and increasing the battery life of laptops. It will be shown how computer resources can be optimally adapted to application needs, reducing job run time. The job-related data can be stored and reused to help computer managers to stop old machines and to choose new ones that are better adapted to the application community. All those methods are in detail described in the recent book HPC@Green IT by Ralf Gruber and Vincent Keller.
