Barriers to Superfast Water Transport in Carbon Nanotube Membranes

Unprecedented large-scale MD simulations on micrometer long CNTs show up to 2 orders of magnitude enhancement over the classical Poiseuille flow predictions. However these rates are 1-3 orders of magnitude less than what has been  reported in related experiments. The simulations show that the experimental results cannot be explained by pure water flowing in pure CNTs and that alternative, yet unexplained, mechanisms may be at work in the experiments. The race for the truth has just begun!
